Winter in Buffalo

This is from October 2006 in Buffalo,New York. Quite a storm...quite a storm

Fight of the Day

I can't really argue and say I have not seen two bills fans fighting, however, it is that much better when it is two cowboys fans!

The Winter Classic - Buffalo, NY

The Winter Classic was held in Buffalo,NY yesterday,January 1st,2008. The Buffalo Sabres faced off against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first outdoor NHL game played in the United States.

   - Read some reviews here: Buffalo Rising and The Buffalo News

Anyone I talked to said this was a once and lifetime experience and they would do it again and pay twice the price. Tickets were being scalped for anywhere between $200-$800 dollars when they first went on sale. Tickets sold out in 20 minutes leaving many fans to wonder if they would be able to part of some history.

The game was slow at times as Zambonis were constantly roaming on the ice to clear the snow that was previously accumulating. Pittsburgh scored some 21 seconds into the game to quiet the crowd. The Sabres came roaring back in the second period with a bullet from the stick of Brian Campbell. The game went into OT and unfortunately, from a Sabres fan aspect speaking here, the Sabres lost 2-1 in a shootout with the winning goal coming from noneother than, Sid the Kid.

Overall, It was a great day for the NHL and the city of Buffalo.

5 tips to financial freedom by the end of 2008

There are millions upon millions of people in the US who have overloaded themselves with student loans, credit card debt, mortgage payments, etc. and never see themselves being free. Enter these five 'debt-free' tips and you may see yourself sitting pretty by the end of the calendar year..

1. Set up a payment plan for yourself: Set aside enough money each month so that you are going to pay your credit cards off totally. You will save yourself hundreds of dollars in interest payments and have the load of the credit card payments off your shoulders. If necessary - Consolidate your loans by transferring to a zero percent interest card.

2. Begin a Roth IRA Account: A Roth IRA account lets you set-up a retirement account by saving $5,000 (increased from $4,000 for 2008) of totally tax-free money. This account is different from a 401k because you can invest in anything you would like to (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc.) Read more about a Roth IRA account here: Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine

3.Setup a 401k,if possible, through your employer: Most employers match a portion of your contributions to a 401k account meaning THEY ARE GIVING YOU FREE MONEY!! This 401k will shore up a decent retirement for you and your family along with a big fat tax return check during tax season as this is all tax-deductible.

4.
Make an extra payment each month of your mortgage/student loans:  This extra payment (not necessarily a full payment, just a portion) will help shorten the life of the loan. Paying an extra payment also helps the interest payments decrease as the excess goes towards the principal.

5.Expel any "wants" from your list :  Anything you don't need should not be turned into a necessity. Leave the money you would use for the purses or new jeans in your bank account and let the interest accrue. Stay at home and eat dinner or bring your lunch to work...save yourself some money!

What are you thinking if you are this goalie? This kid has NHL potential if he sticks with it...

The Johan Santana Chase

The Johan Santana chase has been in the heat of baseball speculation for the last month and yet, we are no closer to defining a winner than when we first started.

On December 24th, the Boston Herald came out with this piece: Big Papi says No?

and then...

On December 28th, the New York Post's Joel Sherman reported this: Boston in the lead for Santana?

So..what are we, the unforgiving fans, being led to believe? Absolute non-sense is what it seems like. Bill Smith, recently promoted to title of General Manager for the Minnesota Twins, does not seem to want to budge from his package needs of Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. It has been reported recently that the Red Sox are offering Jon Lester and Coco Crisp along with Jed Lowrie, who may all start in 2008.

...I guess we have to wait for the Mets, who are beginning to wonder if they need to package together a Dan Haren type deal to get in this chase. It will be interesting no matter what to see what happens.

What can you do? Well...you can blow through 10k in 90 seconds thats what you can do...I doubt he paid anyways...

H.O.R.S.E Poker

I played H.O.R.S.E. at my friend's house last night. This is by far the most difficult of all poker games considering it is a mix of five games:

  • H : Hold'em
  • O:  Omaha
  • R:  Razz
  • S:  Seven-card Stud high
  • E:  Seven-card stud high-low Eight or better, or hi-lo
  • The game changes everytime the button makes a full rotation. I did not do so well, however, it seems the same players make it to the World Series of Poker H.O.R.S.E. event's final table every year.

The 2007 winner was Freddy Deeb, while the 2006 table consisted of Andy Bloch, Jim Bechtel , T.J. Cloutier , David Singer , Dewey Tomko ,and Doyle Brunson.

    Spice Girls

Why are the Spice Girls forming a "reunion tour"? Wait, wait, wait...a better question is how did they sell out in 38 seconds? My head hurts..
